Because you can't use the type of cap you used to house the led....I had to use a 3/4 to 1/2 slip fitting and drill the hole for the led. This made the led sit deeper than your design. As for the brightness, that would depend on the LEDs you use. It's a little tough to figure out how bright they'd be without seeing them, but you can get an idea from the LEDs millicandella rating.
